Hair feeling frazzled? Here are some DIY hair mask recipes!

Even the most cautious of hair straightener users are going to feel a tiny amount of damage at some point; hair straighteners are extremely hot, so it’s unavoidable! Split ends, dryness, and lack of shine are all signs your hair may be in need of some loving.

If you’re feeling the frazzle as of late, then you’ll most likely benefit from a hair mask treatment. You can get them in salons and supermarkets up and down the country; but why splash out on a chemical-laden one when you can make a natural one yourself for next to nothing?

Damaged Hair, natural remedies

With that in mind, here are five hair mask recipes, each one targeted at a different hair type. All of them contain nothing but natural ingredients – some of which you may have lurking in your kitchen already!

If you have long hair – say, past your shoulders – double the amounts shown in the recipe.

Damaged Hair

Ingredients;

  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 2 Tbsp. Coconut Oil
  • 1 Tbsp. Honey

Combine all of the ingredients in a blender, or if you don’t have a blender at hand, whisk the ingredients together until well-mixed. Apply the mask throughout damp hair – focusing on any frazzled ends you may have. If your hair is long, tie it up. Cover your hair with a towel or shower cap, wait for half an hour, and then wash out with your normal shampoo and conditioner. Apply once a week for hair that shines and shines – regardless of your straightening habit!

Frizzy Hair

Ingredients;

  • 1 Sliced Banana
  • 2 Tbsp. Plain Yoghurt
  • 1 Tbsp. Honey

Again, blend all of the ingredients in a blender, but if you find yourself blender-less, just mash the banana and whisk the ingredients together instead. Plonk the mask all over your hair (damp), tie it up if long, and then cover with a shower cap/towel for half an hour. Wash it out with shampoo and conditioner, and your frizz should be a thing of the past.

Oily Hair

Ingredients;

  • ¼ Cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 Juiced Lemon
  • 1 Tbsp. Honey

All of the ingredients, or whisk together until well-blended. Apply the mask all over damp hair, tie it up if need be, and cover with a towel or shower cap for 30 minutes. Wash the mask away with your regular shampoo or conditioner, and your hair should be shiny, not slimy.

Natural Hair

Ingredients;

  • ½ Sliced Avocado
  • ¼ Cup Mayonnaise
  • 2 Tbsp. Coconut Oil
  • 1 Tbsp. Honey

Mash the avocado and whisk the other ingredients into it until well-mixed. If you have a blender, blitz everything together in that instead. Dampen your hair, and apply the mask evenly throughout it. If your hair is long, tie it up, and then cover it with a towel or shower cap and let sit for 30 minutes. Wash out the mask with a cleansing conditioner or co-wash, and you’re done!

Curly Hair

Ingredients;

  • 1 Egg
  • 2 Tbsp. Mayonnaise
  • 1 Tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 1 Tbsp. Honey

Combine ingredients in a blender, or whisk them all together. Dampen your hair, and then apply the mask throughout it. Tie your hair up if it’s long, and then cover with a towel or shower cap for half an hour and let sit. Wash it out with shampoo and conditioner, and you’re good to go.
