It doesn’t bear thinking about, but there always comes a time when you’ll have to replace your much-loved hair straightener.
Although we hate to be the bearer of bad news, here are four warning signs that it’s time to begin the search for a new set…
- A weird smell – it may be odd, but hear us out. If a strange smell is being emitted from your hair straighteners whilst you use them, it could be a warning sign that the internal motor or electrical wiring is getting old.
- Faulty electrics – in a similar vein to the warning sign above, it’s important to keep an eye out for faulty plugs, frayed electrical cords, or exposed wires. Any of these could create a spark when plugged in – a massive risk of electrical shock or fire.
- Imperfect plates – if the plates on your straightener are scratched or dented, or if the coating has worn away, it can snag your hair, and possibly pull it out. The uneven temperature surface also means that you’ll be left with an uneven style.
- Temperature settings with a mind of their own – if the temperature settings begin to show any sign of change (it could be too cool or too hot), it’s evidence that your straightener is on its last legs.
As well as reducing the quality and hold of your hairstyle, failing to purchase a new straightener after spotting any of these warning signs could potentially damage your hair, scalp or skin, or pose a risk of electrical shock or fire.
