Getting straight hair is the desire of many people around the world. It’s not too hard to see why considering that the era of big hair has well and truly ended, and it’s becoming more fashionable than ever to have sleek, smooth hair that doesn’t have a curl in sight. This has thus led to people flocking to the shops in order to buy hair straightening irons so they too can get the look.
The problem, though, is that many of these people don’t know when to stop. It is becoming quite normal now for people to want the straightest possible hair around the clock and, instead of finding ways to keep it maintained, they are instead switching their straighteners back on and going over their hair again for the second and sometimes third time that day. This isn’t a wise move.
Is it really such a big deal?
A lot of people will no doubt be wondering what the big deal is. After all, if you want straight hair, then there’s nothing better than hair straighteners to get the job done, right? Well, there is some merit in that train of thought, but that doesn’t mean that you should rely solely on them throughout the entire day because that can lead to a lot of damage. Some people are already hesitant about using hair straighteners even once a day, so using it more than that really is unnecessary.
Straightening hair in moderate amounts isn’t a problem and many people can testify that they have done it that way for years. The problem comes when it is done excessively. The problem is that persistent heat to the hair will eventually lead to damage. This can happen to anyone, but is particularly of danger to those with fine hair. If you use them once a day, it will be fine, as long as you use the correct heat protection and make sure to wash your hair thoroughly when having a shower.
Sometimes, people’s hair doesn’t stay right all day and it’s understandable that you’d want to reach for the straighteners when this happens. If you happen to get the odd curl coming through, then there should be no harm in giving them a little extra touch up from a pair of portable straighteners, but that should be the extent to which you go. Sitting down and plugging in a pair for another full session of straightening is taking it too far, though, and is certain to cause harm in the long run.
What should you do then?
The main advice to take on board from all of this is that there is no need for you to use your hair straighteners an excessive amount. Using them daily is already enough to cause a little bit of strain to it, never mind using it more than once in a day. If you wish to maintain the straightness of your hair, then there are multiple ways to go about this without feeling the need to pull out the straighteners again and again.
Safety should always be a priority when it comes to hair straighteners, so make sure that you read the potential problems that can stem from hair straighteners so that you are well informed.
